Another great morning!
Boy, for the first of July it sure doesn’t get any better than this!
As we left the house this morning, it was just one of those days that threaten to overwhelm your senses! Cool and brisk at 62 degrees. Lots of fog hanging in the air made nearly every field and pasture a picturesque landscape that just cried out to be photographed (but we didn’t) and clear sky that reflected the burnt orange of the rising sun. Couple the fog with the orange of the rising sun and it’s a good thing that we didn’t have a camera with us or we would have never finished the ride for stopping to take pictures!
As we crested the hill and started down the James River Valley on our way out of town, a huge doe deer was just casually crossing the road in front of us. When she saw us, she took off, leaving her youngster standing on the other side of the road. As we were climbing the hill on our way home about an hour later, the yearling was laying in the brush at the side of the road waiting on it’s mother to come back for it. We got close enough that it got up and moved away from us, but we knew it wouldn’t go far until Momma came back.
We finished the 20 miles with an average speed of 17.3 mph, which is slower than we’ve done the last two rides but still in the range that I consider good for that route.
On the way to work, I got a good laugh at the four way stop heading into the Cinnamon on the Hill neighborhood. Some kids apparently had a little fun with cellophane last night. It was wrapped around all four stop signs, and had been stretched over the street in all four directions. All four were broken, so I presume that an unsuspecting motorist or two got a surprise at some point!

Got cellophane?
After work, we met Sam and Barbara out at Springfield Community Church for our 2nd tandem ride of the day. We actually covered a lot of the same ground as our morning route for the first 10 miles, but I still managed to get on a road I had never been on before. This ride was the first we had with the Browns in about three weeks, so we had a lot of conversations to catch up on. It was a good ride, but evening rides like that are hard on Pam after riding hard this morning and then working all day.
Here’s the GPS track from this evening.
God bless…
