I knew it!
Are you less safe in bike lanes? A British study has found that drivers give cyclists less consideration when cyclists are in bike lanes. Drivers tend to stay centered in their own lane rather than swing wide as they do when passing riders who are in the traffic lane. Said an official of the CTC, Britain’s cyclists’ rights organization, “Where a cycle lane exists, drivers may overtake with the belief that they can use the entire road space outside the cycle lane, and consequently may be paying less attention to the cyclist’s need for space.” Added a research spokesperson, “This has important implications for the width of cycle lanes and implies that their width should never be compromised.”

This is exactly why I ride on the line when traveling down a stretch of street with marked bike lanes!

Bike lane heading east on Central
On the way home I had to pull of the street to answer my phone. When I did, I noticed the view below. Say it ain’t so! It can’t be fall already!

Fall colors are starting to show on Walnut Street
As I pulled up to the stoplight at Sunshine and Eastgate, Carter was kind enough to have triggered it for me (Actually, he had to wait the entire cycle and I just timed it right). Carter has been commuting longer than I have, but just this summer he’s been riding a recumbent trike. I used to pass him several times a week as I was driving home from work. It’s much more fun to occasionally catch him on the road now. He says he’s riding one of two recumbent trikes in town.

Carter and his trike.

Talk about a "laid back" ride.
Oh, I almost forgot. Anyone need a decent bike at a reasonable price?

I’m wondering about the early color changes. I’ve seen maples around town with exactly the color pattern in your picture. Considering it’s mid September, I’m thinking this might indicate damage. I have noted what appears to be normal color changes in dogwoods. And my walnut tree began dropping right on time last week.
