Milestones!

She did it!  Pam hit a major milestone this morning on our run!  Way to go, Sweetheart!

After our run this morning, I had to scramble for different riding gear than I had laid out last night.  Not sure what happened there, but I completely missed the forecast and the 34 degree temperature sure surprised me!

When I hit the road on my bike, I ended up wearing my lobster mitts, my heavy Pearl jacket, and my balaclava.  That’s in addition to my normal base layer undershirt, jersey, arm warmers, shorts and tights.  It was too much….I was sweating before I got out to Sunshine Street.  About the time I hit Cherry Street my glasses had fogged over so badly that I couldn’t see.  I stopped and took off the balaclava, but immediately got a cold face and ears (probably because of all the sweat), so I put it back on and just took my glasses off.

In all, a great morning.  Perfect temperature for running, and commute to work in almost full light on a cloudless, blue sky kind of day.

On the way home, I had a near miss.  On Farm Road 156 an older gentleman was getting his mail and flipping through it as he absently walked across the road toward his house.  I saw him getting the mail, but then a car passed between us in the other lane and before I could re-orient my eyes from his lights, the guy was stepping into my lane.  I hit the brakes and hollered to get his attention.  Luckily, he froze and I came to a skidding stop about three feet from him.  His reaction was, “I thought you was way up there!” as he pointed up the street.  I’m glad it happened up on the top part of the hill before I had time to pick up the 30 mph head of steam that I usually carry down to our subdivision.  Nothing for me to do but continue on!  It goes to show that you can’t let your guard down for an instant out there…..

God bless….
