Paris in Springtime
Gosh, our warm weather was shortlived. By the time I headed home from work last night, the temperature had dropped to 29, and I was greeted with a cold 19 degrees and north wind for my ride to work today. With that return to cold, my mind has started wandering into the future as I begin to think about the cycling adventures I would like to have in the coming year.
I asked Pam last night, “What would you think about a bicycle ride in Paris in the springtime?”. She eyed me suspisciously for a few seconds, then asked, “Really?”.
“Sure. There is a tandem rally in Paris, Texas at the end of April that I would like to go to. What do you think?”. She just rolled her eyes!
In all seriousness, it’s been several years since we attended the Midwest Tandem Rally and I think it would be fun to go to another one. I’ve had my eyes on the Southwest Tandem Rally for several years. This year it’s going to be held in Paris, Texas, which Mapquest tells me is less than six hours from home. Unlike the Midwest Tandem Rally which is huge, this particular rally is limited to only 75 teams, so it should be an interesting ride.
The one area of concern to me is the time of year it’s held. In Missouri, the end of April can still be pretty sketchy in terms of tandem riding weather. It’s tough for us to get any consistent time on the big bike before that, so a 70 mile ride might be a stretch. You would hate to drive 350 miles for a bike ride and have to ride the short, 30 mile route!
As of now, I think we’re going but nothing is firm yet. I’ll watch the registration list for a while and when it starts looking a little fuller we’ll decide if a long weekend in Texas is in the cards.
How about you? You planning your vacation/adventure yet?
God bless….

There has been a commercial around here where the hubby is booking a trip to Paris. The wife is all excited – before she, too, rolls her eyes at his idiocy. Maybe you can suggest y’all go to Italy (also in Texas) as a makeup gesture.
