Add another layer! – Cold morning
Well, the weather is certainly different this morning than it was on Monday. Thirteen degrees when I left the house, but no wind, so this morning was actually a more enjoyable ride than yesterday’s morning sufferfest in the wind. Since it’s been a while, I thought I would give you a breakdown of the different layers I wore today.
Head:
- Pearl Izumi skullcap
- Full balaclava
Hands:
- silk glove liners
- Cloudveil Mittens
Feet:
- Smartwool hiking socks
- Lake MXZ302 boots
Top:
- Winter weight long sleeve base layer
- Long sleeve cotton tee
- Short sleeve cycling jersey (for the pockets)
- Pearl Izumi Barrier Jacket (older than the one pictured)
- Pearl Izumi wind vest (again, older than pictured) for visibility
Bottom:
- Cycling shorts
- Pearl Izumi Select tight
- Columbia thermal underwear
- REI Novara Headwind Pants
Boy, that seems like a lot of stuff to wear…and it was. By the time I got to the office, I was feeling a bit overdressed, as my base layers were getting kind of sweaty. That’s consistent with what I wore at those temperatures last year with the exception of the Novara pants. They’re a lot more wind resistant than the ones they replaced, so I would have probably been just fine without the thermal underwear layer.
God bless…

For some reason, your blog did not like the iPad but the iPhone is fine. The combo of a skullcap AND balaclava bears more explanation to curious readers. Also, no eye protection?

Did you do something? Now, iPad comments work again. The Internet can be finicky!
