Thought Provoking

I ran across this article in TomsRiverPatch and thought I would share it.   As much as I enjoy cycling and it’s requisite collection of cool stuff to make it or me “better”, I thought the writer put it into good perspective.

When you think about it, the amount of money I spent on a new pair of cycling shoes would buy a nice enough bike to change someone’s life forever.  Money well spent?  Food for thought….

God bless…

  1. Good post.
Sometimes we need to be reminded that there are others that are less fortunate.

I buy my cycling shoes mostly at 75% off. At that price, they’re not going to change anybody’s life – unless they stick to the low end of thrift stores.

Especially when you consider what I paid for most of my bikes. Only one cost over $400. And that one has 10000 miles on it now.

Some are less fortunate than us, but even then, some simply do not wish to be victims and make their own luck. And THEY are ones that should be particularly celebrated.

What’s more, it isn’t about smarts, but rather about what opportunities fall commonly within one’s own environment and how one takes advantage of same – or not. I would be LOST in Zambia, at least in the short run. Y’all, too. Thought provoking either way…

I read the story, and that’s cool and all, but I am so tired of the oligarchy malarkey. Who made him the pontiff that will decide who needs racing gear or not or who needs a bicycle and for what purpose? Does he not realize that the large price we pay here ends up translating into charity elsewhere? Does he also not realize that most of the bikes he refers to were more than likely donated by someone who bought a new bike?

This rage against profit hoo-hah has got to stop. It’s ridiculous.

I ride to stay healthy and fit and have two bikes and I like to ride, life is too short to roam around feeling guilty for being able to ride a bike with clipless pedals.
