He’s Back!
Mike’s been cleared to ride his bike! I think he was going nuts, and didn’t waste any time getting back in the saddle after getting the go ahead. We met at the Frisco trailhead last night for an easy ride to see how he felt.
As I pulled into the parking lot and started to unload my bike, I spotted a familiar face. We knew Pam’s nephew Andy had recently gotten a mountain bike from his Facebook posts, and he was just finishing up a ride with a couple of his buddies. He’s got a pretty nice little 29′er as his first ride in a long time. We had a good time chatting while I waited for Mike.
As soon as Mike got there and got his bike ready, we headed off down the trail at a much faster pace than I expected. I mean, after all, the guy broke his hip two months ago so I really expected to just dawdle along. That didn’t happen. He was on his blue bike (fast) and I was on my Surly (utilitarian), but I sure didn’t expect him to be pushing 18-20 mph about half of the time.
I was amused to see that he had created himself a “plate” out of one of his hospital bracelets. Hopefully that won’t be necessary in the future.
We rode to the end of the pavement (just a tad over 8 miles), paused to catch a bit of the sunset, then headed back to the vehicles. I kept thinking, “Surely he’s gonna run out of steam and slow down.”, but he didn’t. We finished just as it was getting dark enough that we needed to be done and concluded it had been a great evening for a bike ride.
I loaded my bike and headed for home feeling just a little tired. I managed to accumulate over 53 miles for the day. That’s not bad for a Thursday!
God bless…
