Rainy Sunrise Commute

We had a lot of thunder and rain at 5:00 am this morning, so we (mainly me!) succumbed to the temptation to just stay in bed rather than do an indoor run.  When I got up the second time and looked at radar, it looked like the bulk of the bad stuff would be past us by the time I got ready to leave, so I determined it to be safe enough to bike to work and got ready.

It was still raining pretty hard when I left the house, but I’ve got my good headlight back, reasonably decent batteries in my tail lights and spoke lights, so I didn’t worry too much about it.  The worse thing about today’s ride was the north wind that slowed me down a little more than the rain would have normally.  My rain gear kept me reasonably dry and comfortable and it was actually a pretty pleasant ride in.

As I started getting close to the fitness center, I could tell the rain was letting up, and could even see some color forming in the eastern sky.  I stopped for the above pic at just the right time, because it didn’t last long at all.  It was something of an odd moment – getting a sunrise picture like that while standing in the rain!

Rumor has it that we may be close to getting our showers back at work, and I couldn’t be more happy.  The fitness center works since it’s only two blocks from my office, but it adds extra steps.  The rain compounded the situation today, as I managed to let the bike slip while I was unlocking it and got a nice chain-ring tattoo on my pants leg for my efforts!

Enough complaining, though.  It still beats driving to work.

God bless…
