Windy Sunday afternoon
Mike and I did a quick loop out to Billings on Sunday afternoon. It was a warm and windy day, with pretty strong winds from the south. You can see from the map above that our route put us in a cross wind the bulk of the distance. It wasn’t bad, but it was enough that it just didn’t feel very smooth. When we turned into the wind, it was loud enough in our ears to nearly prevent all conversation.
We left Battlefield with the intention of getting to Billings then deciding whether to stretch on for a loop south to Clever. By the time we got there, we took a realistic look at the time and the wind and realized we should probably just head directly back. In the end, that was probably the best decision. We made it back to the cars without any real suffering, and I’m not sure that would have been the case had we extended our ride further south.
I’m not sure whether can see it or not, but Mike’s got a pretty happy smile on his face in the picture above.
And in that one, he’s got the same look on his face. I took about a half-dozen pictures and he was just grinning that same way in every one of them. Regardless of whether we were grinding up a hill, flying along in the wind or pounding into the cross wind, he was smiling. Amazing how a simple little bike ride can affect you that way, isn’t it?
We ended up with a 28.75 mile ride at an average speed of 16.2 mph. That’s not bad for a windy Sunday afternoon where we got a late start!

God bless…

I see the sun has been shining with you, no wonder you’ve got smiles on your faces. The sun has been out here as well, but I haven’t been out riding in it, other mundane things keep getting in the way. I’m green with envy. Your pal there has a lovely bike as well, that must aid his smile also. Cheers
