Hardly Serious
If I had to pick a favorite rider from the Tour De France, I would have to say that for the past couple of years, it’s been Jens Voigt. At 40 years old, he’s the oldest rider in the 2012 peloton, but the guy’s got so much heart and enthusiasm that you’ve gotta love him. Riding for RadioShack Nisson Trek, he’s not content to sit in the pack, and can usually be found attacking, or setting pace for the peleton.
In addition, for the past couple of years, he’s been blogging the Tour over at Bicycling every day after he races. His posts are insightful and give you a peek behind the scenes…and you can tell he doesn’t take himself too seriously. His blog can be found here. In addition, I’ve been following him on Twitter for a while, and his tweets give you a real feeling that he loves his family and loves sharing snippets of his life with his fans. If you follow @thejensie, you will see what I mean.
How about you? Do you have a favorite in the pro peloton?
God bless…

Perfect photo of a great rider. After several of my favorites being snuffed out with drug allegations, I’ve been enjoying Jens greatly. Excellent choice.

Ironically, my timing was pretty good on this post. I wrote it over the weekend and and scheduled it to post today. Since then, Jens has finished 16th in the Stage 9 time trail and 3rd in stage 10.

I agree, Voigt is one of my favourite riders. I love riders who are humble and have a lot of heart — my other favourite is Tommy Voeckler for the same reason — couldn’t decide who to root for today! There are a couple of great stories about Jens, my recent favourite is that when a bee landed on his lip and stung him during a time trial (i think it was tour of California) he decided the best thing to do would be to eat it!!

I identify most with the riders that get dropped off the back.
