Well, what do you know. A milestone! SpringfieldCyclist.Com has been on WordPress for 5 years. I never would have thought when I started this little piece of the internet that I would still be at it several years later.
Actually, I’ve been blogging nearly six years. I originally started the blog on BraveJournal, but after nearly a year of struggling with the functionality, decided that WordPress was the better product. The My Old Blog link on the sidebar points over to that original blog, and I’m amazed that it’s still there after being inactive so long. Looking back now, it’s pretty amusing to go read some of those original posts.
In celebration of my 5 year WordPress anniversary, I thought I would share with you my very first blog post. Don’t laugh!

I’ve thought about creating a cycling journal for a couple of years now, but just haven’t taken the time to do so. Believe it or not, I’ve finally decided to put my intentions into actions. We’ll see how consistent I can be with this, but for now, I’m going to give it a try.
It’s Easter weekend, and so far, this year has been kind of tough for cycling. We’ve had a rough winter, so there wasn’t any opportunity to get out on the bike until around the first of March. Luckily, we had a warm, but windy March, so I did manage to get a little riding in. Between the single and the tandem, my year to date mileage is 322 total miles (131 tandem / 191 single), which is a couple of hundred miles behind where I would like to be at this point.
I have an informal goal of topping 4,200 total miles this year, but won’t be heartbroken if I don’t make it. Last year, I ended the year with 4,161 miles, but the year ended early for me and there wasn’t anything I could do about it. Maybe I’ll tell about that one of these days…
Me and my beautiful stoker….
Note….there was a picture here that seems to be lost….
I have two major rides planned this year. The first will be in June, and is Bike Across Kansas.
The second is a little more tentative, but we did it on the tandem last year and had a pretty good time. It is the Great Illinois Rivers Ride. (dead link)
